Frank/Mikey VanDays Accidental Drawing

I was meant to be practicing a new way of drawing perspective where you use cubes to determine depth, and then one of the cube people turned into Frank! and then a new cube person appeared underneath Frank and it was Mikey! And suddenly there was also a background, and I'd been drawing for like six hours, and the Accidental VanDays drawing was born.

Also, where do I post fanart here at Dreamwidth? I've posted at bandslashmania at LJ before, but it feels more a fic-directed community.

So,yeah. I used Photoshop and a couple pictures for reference, the lights in the background are meant to be streetlights and I'm not sure why the van is completely deserted, but I'm sure there's a good reason.

More vandays fic should exist!

Also, it looks really blurry because Photobucket is a cesspool of evil.

Oh my goodness. I love that so much! The way they're positioned and Frank's expression and just everything.

Thank you! It was the first time I'd really experimented with angles, and colours are something I like to focus on, so that means a lot. And I'm also a fan of their little faces :D

I love this! The little bright lights are gorgeous, and I love the little details like Frank's boxers peeking over his jeans, and the hot water bottle and how Frank's eyebrows are so accurate (ie perfect). I love Mikey's hair too, it's so cute <3

Heehee, by the way, the hot water bottle is meant to be a folded up jumper/shirt thing, but looking at it now... it does look a lot like a hot water bottle! Hahaha

Duuuude! I'm totes flail-y hands about this wonderful art! *pauses for a moment to collect thoughts*

Something about Frank and Mikeyway's positions makes the whole thing seem very solid. I love how Mikeyway's long, long legs are spread and the incline of Frank's body towards Mikeyway. The colours are lovely too (especially Mikeyway's pants that, in my mind, read as light brown corduroy jeans. *g*)

It deffo reads as a nighttime scene (maybe the band stopped at a rest stop and everyone but Frank and Mikeyway got off the van?). There's a playful intimacy between Frank and Mikeyway. I get the feeling like they're in no hurry to step outside.

I hope you keep practicing new ways to draw perspective if you end up with art as faboo as this one. ^_^

Yes, that's what happened! Maybe they're in a 7/11, taking ages to decide whether to get Doritos or not. I'm so glad you're reading emotions into this and they're not, just, like, lying there all blank-faced. :D

This is awesome! Love the colouring and their poses and how intently Frank is looking at Mikey.

I don't think bandslashmania is completely fic-directed. I link my icons and wallpapers in it and I've never heard anyone complain. Anyway, dotcoms_refresh will pick it up from both bandslashmania and angelsandkings and I'm fairly sure more people follow that than do either of the two comms.

Oh yes, and there is also bandom_art, but I think it's almost completely deserted these days. Noone's posted in it since March I notice.
